Rev. Betty White

MDiv, BCC, ACPE Certified Educator and Coordinator of Clinical Pastoral Education, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

 

Rev. White is a respected Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Certified Educator and a Coordinator of Clinical Pastoral Education at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Before taking the position at HUP, Chaplain White was employed as an executive for a major retailer for twenty-nine years. Her decision to transition from this work allowed her to journey toward her call and passion for specialized ministry (Chaplaincy).

Chaplain White completed a second-year chaplain residency at New York Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, NY.  At the completion of her residency things shifted. Rev. White then trained to become an ACPE Certified Educator at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania under the leadership of Rev. Ralph Ciampa. After becoming a Certified Educator in 2016, Rev. White received her board certification through the Association of Professional Chaplains a year later. 

Rev. White's commitment to ministry with diverse patient populations, family members, staff, and students is something she is passionate about. Throughout her clinical and supervisory training, she has been a servant leader offering workshops on Death and Dying, End of Life Decision-Making and Multiculturalism and Spirituality to name a few. 

Chaplain White currently serves within the ACPE as a Commissioner on the Certification Committee. She has also held roles in the ACPE Committee Professional Ethics and Accreditation Committees. Chaplain is an active member of the Community Advisory Board of HUP Cedar. Chaplain White stands upon the foundations of ethic, integrity, compassion, and collaboration in her ministry, education, and leadership. 

Chaplain White is a Coping First Aid Coach and a facilitator for Spaces of Color in Cobalt. She has served on the Board of Interfaith Philadelphia since 2018. Since 2021 shea as served on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force and is currently on the Executive Committee.  Rev. White has a BA in Biological Science from Rutgers University where she attended Douglass College and a Master of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary. She will receive her Doctor of Ministry in June 2024 from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary. She is a mother of two adult children and enjoys spending time with her family.
